descriptionAbout Putnam Museum and Science Center
The Putnam is a place where people connect with history and ideas by doing, making and experiencing. Our classes and special events are a great complement to our hands-on exhibit galleries. There is always something new to discover and something for everyone at the Putnam! The Putnam’s exciting 10,000-square-foot Science Center features more than 45 hands-on stations that make science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts fun for visitors of all ages. Five Exhibit Halls, plus changing traveling exhibitions, stimulate everyone's imagination. Black Earth/Big River is an interactive display of ecosystems of the Upper Mississippi River Valley; Hall of Mammals lets you see and hear life-like African and Arctic animals in their natural settings; River, Prairie and People explores the history of the Quad Cities region; and the Asian/Egyptian Gallery explores the mysteries of ancient civilizations and includes a 3,000 year-old mummy. Top your visit off with a movie in the National Geographic Giant Screen Theater which towers five stories high and seven stories wide and features a variety of movies each day.

Have you ever wanted to pet a polar bear, dance with dolphins or go eye-to-eye with an elephant? Now you can in the Quad Cities’ first-ever augmented reality experience, only at the Putnam!

The augmented reality adventure, “Air, Land & Sea,” is centered around a dynamic, ever-changing watering hole that allows visitors to meet a diverse range of animals from Africa to the Artic as they graze, drink and interact with the environment around them.

Putnam visitors will be able to interact in real-time with amazing 3D characters and animals as part of the region’s first augmented reality experience. Once your adventure is complete, you will be emailed a photo and social media ready video you can then share with your friends and family.
